Waimea to Kekaha

Waimea Town

Waimea Town appears just as one crosses the Waimea River. The cars slow down and the architecture of old Hawaiʻi and Territorial Hawaiʻi come on display. Local shops nod to the towns sugar plantation era past and also provide those who head up to the Waimea Canyon and Kokeʻe's State Park for day trips or to camp. Homes are few and vacation rentals are predominantly found within Waimea Plantation Cottages. The Kauaʻi Veterans Memorial Hospital is centered in Waimea.

Kekaha

As the neighborhood that marks the end of the road on the west side of Kauaʻi, people live and visit Kekaha for its casual lifestyle and expansive beaches. Surfing, swimming, and virtually everything that defines a life spent outdoors makes Kekaha a favorite. Homes have a beach feel and most who reside here either work in agriculture or at the neighboring Pacific Missile Range Facility. The center of Kekaha is the former Kekaha Sugar Mill, which closed in 2000 and is an ideal redevelopment site. Kekaha offers a wide array of homes for residential purposes and more legal vacation rentals than neighboring Waimea.
